At the end of June, for the second year running DYW Ayrshire in partnership with Ayrshire College held a ‘Create Your Career Event’ in Ayr College Campus. The event was designed for S2 and S3 pupils whom are considering studying creative subjects within their senior phase of Secondary School.
The aim was to give the young people a clear idea of what studying a creative course is like in a further education environment. Ayrshire College offered to host the 195 pupils attending from 9 different Schools from within the three local authorities.
Pupils pre-selected a workshop to attend from a choice of 8, ranging from fashion and photography to sound production and technical theatre. The workshops were delivered by Ayrshire College Lecturers in their fantastic Ayr Campus facilities. Running alongside these workshops was a business “Marketplace” organised by DYW Ayrshire.
The young people in attendance had the opportunity to network with 10 representatives from local businesses, further and higher education. Film-makers, jewellers and digital marketers amongst others helped to inspire the young people to take up creative subjects. This engagement demonstrated to the pupils that there is an opportunity to work locally in a creative industry at the end of their studies.
