January 2021 saw the launch of the DYW Ayrshire Sector Spotlight Campaign. This new social media campaign will focus on a different industry/sector each month with up to 3 posts per week dedicated to promoting job roles, pathways, videos and links to resources. These sectors have been chosen following research into the Skills Development Scotland Regional Skills Assessment which identifies trends for jobs of the future.
The first month had a focus on the Construction Industry and DYW Ayrshire were grateful to Ashleigh Building for providing many of the information videos that were featured throughout the month. First we heard from Scott who spoke about his role as an Quantity Surveyor. Our next video was by Laura who is an Assistant Project Manager. Our last video to round up the month was Euan who is the Commercial Director.
Another great source of job role information is the Skills Development Scotland My World of Work Website which is a really useful platform for young people to connect their skills and interests to different job roles. We featured job information on just some of the roles involved in the Construction Industry Painter and Decorator, Quantity Surveying, Carpenter/Joinery and Plumber.
There are a variety of websites and resources for a young person to find out more about careers and pathways within the Construction Industry. Some of the options we featured this month included: Go Construct,Amey, CITB and Ayrshire College
