University of the West of Scotland held their annual Taster Event at their Ayr Campus in June, S5 & S6 pupils were invited from schools across Ayrshire to spend the morning at the campus and find out more about life at university.
Pupils were given the opportunity to take part in a 90-minute workshop choosing from Nursing, Primary Education, Sports Coaching & Development or Performance, giving them a taster of what studying their chosen subject at university would be like. After the workshops, the university also offered campus tours and gave a presentation on different routes into university and the options available. Current students also participated in a question and answer session for the pupils where they had the opportunity to hear from the experiences of the students and their university careers.
This year a fantastic 14 schools attended with a total of 98 pupils having the opportunity to take part in the workshops and learn more about university life. Thank you to UWS for organising this great event and allowing Ayrshire’s young people to have this opportunity again.
